The history of tea might have been born in China but the Turkish know a little something about drinking this magical liquid as well. They used to be coffee lovers back in the day but once the Ottoman Empire fell, in the aftermath of World War 1, Turkey lost control of most coffee resources and it became too expensive. The leader at the time, Ataturk, encouraged the nation to quench its thirst with a beverage that had previously been more associated more with their neighbors to the left. Over time they got their coffee back but they stuck with the tea as well. .

Have you ever heard about silver spoons like this called “mote spoon”? They were produced in the UK from around 1690 to 1770 until the arrival of tea strainers.
🥄
The word ‘mote’ is an old English word that means an obstruction which is in a place it shouldn’t be. ・
The slots in the mote spoon would allow the tea leaves to be removed with a simple scoop. 🍃Also the pointed terminal of the spoon was used to unblock the teapot spout which would regularly get blocked from infused tea leaves. 🌿
・
茶道具として17世紀末から18世紀の間だけに製作されていた銀のモートスプーン。お茶に浮いた茶葉をすくったり、先の尖った部分はティーポットのスパウトに詰まった茶葉を取り除くために使用されました🥄

A little bit of tea history:
The story goes that several thousand years ago, the Emperor of China, Shen Nung, was sitting under a tree drinking hot water and contemplating matters of state, when some leaves from the tree above fell into his tea. The ensuing concoction was celebrated for its good taste and reviving nature and the cup of comfort we all know and love was born.

Tea is by sea and cha is by land.

For all u tea lovers out there, the history of tea is as fascinating as the drink itself. The Tea Museum at Munnar, Kerala reminds us of an era gone by and walks us through its more than two centuries-old tea plantation history.

Even as the granite sundial made in 1913 welcomes you at the entrance, the original tea-roller of 1905, the Pelton wheel of the 1920’s, the rotorvane and the rail engine wheel unit of the Kundala Valley Light Railway that operated between Munnar and Top Station from 1908 till 1924 are sights that will transfix you.

No visit is complete without attending the tea-tasting session from which you can come away feeling like a connoisseur yourself!

New book 📚 today :-) “Liquid Jade - The story of tea from east to west” first part done ✅ two more are remaining :-) So, based on the book written by Beatrice Hohenegger we don’t know the origin of tea if the first wild tree was discovered in China or India and then bring to other country. But we know that first cultivated crop was in China 🇨🇳 Back that time tea was defined in Erh-ya dictionary as a beverage made from the leaves by boiling. 🍵 it’s minimum two years old and Taoist monks were the first tea- plantations owners of sorts. #cha #liquidjade #tea #chai #茶 #🍵 #book #gongfucha #gongfutea #teatime #teastory #history #historyoftea #chinese #tao #taoism #monks #india #china #čaj #tee #beverage #reading #education #east #west #beatricehohenegger #joy

TEAPOTS OF THE WORLD
The yokode kyūsu teapot is the more common type of teapot in Japan, this has a side handle and is used for brewing green tea. Japanese tea ceremony is called "Way of Tea", is a Japanese cultural activity involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha powdered green tea.

Tea bowls are used for drinking tea in Japan and are available in a wide range of sizes and styles, and different styles are used for thick and thin tea. Shallow bowls, which allow the tea to cool rapidly, are used in summer; deep bowls are used in winter.
Now it must be time for a cuppa… .

“‘Tea reminds us to slow down and escape the pressures of modern life,’ he says.” Any other tea lovers out there? 🍵

There are some rare books out there that I just know I’ll love, and this was one of them.
The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane ended up being my top read of 2018!

See weaves an epic story while exploring China’s history, the history of tea, and what it means to be Chinese and Chinese-American. The core of the book focuses on the relationship between mother and daughter.

VERDICT: 📖📖📖📖📖 *Check out my full, spoiler-free review on our blog! Link in bio!*

Tea in China was said to be discovered in the 3rd Century BCE by the Emperor Shennong. It is said that he liked to drink his water hot and that one day, when his water was being prepared, a tea leaf fell in the water. When the Emperor drank it, he found it to be refreshing. Tea became even more popular during the Tang Dynasty period (618-907CE)

Although there are now hundreds of well-known teas around the world, did you know that in reality, there are only six different varieties of tea – #greentea, #yellowtea, #darktea, #whitetea, #oolongtea and #blacktea?
Although they all originate from the same plant, they differ in terms of how they are processed. For example, the tea plants in Long Jing village can be used to create any of the aforementioned six types of teas. Since the leaves from the plants in this region are more suited to making green tea, Long Jing village maximizes its natural advantages for a single type of tea.

Green tea, yellow tea, and dark tea are exposed to high heat immediately after harvesting, thus preventing the oxidization process of the leaves from taking place. It is also this process that allows the tea leaves to keep their original green color as it is the enzymes that cause the leaves to change color. This process is similar to how vegetables remain green during cooking when blanched.
Prior to the #Mingdynasty, tea was mostly pressed into tea cakes and the hot steam in this process created the same effect. In fact, the most common type of tea in Japan is still steamed green tea. After the Ming Dynasty and the rise of #looseleaf tea, pan-fried tea leaves became increasingly popular and remain so today.

First of all, in 1815, some British travelers went to the bushes of Assam growing in Assam, and local tribals used to drink and drink a drink. In 1834, the Governor-General of India, Lord Bantric formed a committee to start the tradition of tea in India and explore the possibility of producing it. After this, tea gardens were planted in Assam in 1835
It is said that one day China's Emperor Shan Nung kept in a hot water cup, some dry leaves came and the color came in water and when he snatched it, he liked the taste of it. It starts from here only on tea. This is 2737 years ago from Jesus. The first mention of tea drinking tradition is found in 350 In 1610, the Dutch traders took tea from China to Europe and gradually became the favorite drink of the whole world.

List: Some ancient classics and some modern classics. From the “Treatise on Tea” by the Chinese Emperor Huizong of Song Dynasty, “Drinking Tea for Health” by Eisai Zenji to some modern specific books on white teas, lapsang souchong...and some studies from the Palace museum. Can’t wait to read each of them. Adding more and more to my tea books collection is a must.

The humble teapot was invented during the Yung Dynasty, in China (1271-1368 AD). Teapots gradually replaced the use of cauldrons or kettles in the making of tea and were widespread throughout China by the Ming Dynasty.
.
Early examples of teapots would be considered too small by today’s standards - they were designed for ‘tea for one’ and the tea was drunk directly from the spout. This smaller size reflects the importance placed on the correct concentration of flavours in every serve.
.
Jilly continues the tradition of well blended teas with distinctive flavours and aromas, available from 50gm - 1 kg qualities: meaning you can enjoy tea for one or tea for many!

Welcome to Sun Moon Lake - homeland of Taiwanese Black Tea.
🖤
In chinese for “black tea” we use word [紅茶 hóngchá]that literally means “red tea”. ❤️
Sun Moon Lake area is famous for Ruby Tea and Honey Black Tea. 🐝
Ruby Tea was cultivated by Taiwan Wild Tea Tree and Burma Big Leaf Tea in 1999. 🇲🇲 + 🇹🇼 = 🌱

the history of tea began in 2737 B.C.E. when the Emperor Shen Nong, a skilled ruler and scientist, accidentally discovered tea. While boiling water in the garden, a leaf from an overhanging wild tea tree drifted into his pot. The Emperor enjoyed drinking the infused water so much that he was compelled to research the plant further. Legend has it that the Emperor discovered tea's medicinal properties during his research.

Do you know the legendary story of tea? We learned it as we were doing our research :
The story of tea begins in China. According to legend, in 2737 BC, the Chinese emperor Shen Nung was sitting beneath a tree while his servant boiled drinking water, when some leaves from the tree blew into the water. ... The tree was a Camellia sinensis, and the resulting drink was what we now call tea.
See, we can learn something new every day 😜

Fakta unik teh :

The first lesson the Buddha gave after his enlightenment was that the source of our suffering is due to our constant arguing with reality. We want what “is" to be "is not” and what “is not” to be “is” and we are in a state of antagonism with our lives and reality itself. Creating a vision that suits the world is about healing our relationship to our life. - Wu De

Our second tea partner for this month’s AntiquiTEA box is @verdanttea. The world needs more people like the folks at Verdant Tea— they’re passionate about not just the tea that’s in your cup, but also the farmer’s that grow it, the techniques they used, and the history it represents. This month’s pick is their Hand Fired Qianjiazhai Black, from the Yunnan Province. This tea is picked from ancient trees. The trees in Qianjiazhai range from 500 to over 1,000 years old and some villagers tend and forage trees that are as old as 1,500 and 2,000 years old. This forest of tall, fragrant, tea-bearing trees, trees that are contemporaneous with the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in Europe, are foraged and managed sustainably so that they may continue to provide for the generations ahead. And you, my Hive friends, get to share in this history.

This is how they used to hold tea cups back when tea was newly introduced in England 💟

The purpose was to show off the expensive china and highlight the delicacy of the female wrist... mine is too beefy to show off but I still love it and will still show it off! Heeyah!

Brushing up on the history of tea 😊

Fun Facts on a Sunday - did you know the teabag was invented 110 years ago in 1908 by Thomas Sullivan.
He was a New York tea merchant who sent samples of his tea to customers in small silken bags. Some of the customers thought they had to put the whole bag into the pot instead of the loose leaves - and so the tea bag was born (accidentally!) Enjoy your Sunday. I’m out and about a lot today so will pack a teabag or two in my backpack 😊

An element of creativity is about being connected with your environment and seeing things that you don’t normally see, that are around us everywhere, and then using that for inspiration for something that people aren’t used to noticing. And through your noticing that thing and then accentuating it they notice it too. That’s where I see the power of chaxi as an art form - you’re sharing the mind that’s aware and reverent of the environment with other people and letting others access it through that. - Sam Gibb

This place is famous for the first tea plants☕️ in Srilanka, made by James Taylor, who started fully equipped tea factory on the Loolecondera estate in 1872.

During the period when Taylor lived on the Loolecondera estate, the export of tea accelerated from 23 pounds to 81 tonnes and in 1890 it reached the level of 22,900 tonnes.

The story of tea in British Ceylon began in the year of 1867. A Scotsman, James Taylor had cleared 19 acres (77,000 m2) of forest in the District of Hewaheta Lower to plant the first seedlings in what is now known as the No.7 field of the Loolecondera Estate.Today even people who have never heard of Sri Lanka are familiar with Ceylon tea, which is known for its quality. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
